Pigmentation treatment with a dermaroller is used to remove pigmentation by renewing the skin and to increase the effectiveness of depigmenting creams applied to the skin. For pigmentation treatment, the dermaroller is used for 4–6 sessions at 2–4-week intervals. During and after the procedure, depigmenting serums, creams and mesotherapy products are applied. In pigmentation treatment, the dermaroller needles should be used without causing too much irritation, as excessive irritation can stimulate the pigment cells and increase pigmentation.
Dermaroller treatment with small needles is a new method used to correct sagging and wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks. It is a hand-held device with at least 200–500 very fine needles on a cylinder. The microneedles are made of stainless material.
During treatment, as the roller moves over the skin, the needles open tiny channels in the upper skin. The skin perceives the microchannels created by the microneedles as wounds. The growth factors released during the skin's natural wound-healing process stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. As a result, skin renewal takes place in that area. The microneedles increase the passage of products such as creams, lotions and serums applied to the skin into the lower layers of the skin by 200 times. Because of the skin renewal, the dermaroller method can be used effectively to remove pigmentation, wrinkles, sagging, acne scars, scars and stretch marks. Dermarollers for home use have needles 0.25 mm long. They can be used twice a week together with skin-renewing products. The device should be cleaned with hot water before use.
