PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a method used in medicine to treat non-healing wounds and orthopaedic problems. Platelets are the cell fragments that enable blood clots to form, in other words blood platelets. In this procedure a small amount of blood is taken from the person, placed in a special tube and separated. The small amount of platelet-enriched plasma (PRP) obtained from the separation process is then injected back into the same person.
Collagen and elastic fibres, the basic components of connective tissue, decrease in number with ageing and their structure begins to deteriorate. As a result, sagging and wrinkles develop in the skin. The PRP method, whose cosmetic use is very widespread in Europe as one of the most natural ways of rejuvenation because of its healing effect on tissue and the scalp, has also started to be used in Turkey in recent years.
Our skin, worn down by many factors such as sun damage, smoking, pregnancy, a stressful life and an unbalanced diet, regains the structures it has lost thanks to PRP treatment. It can be used on a wide variety of body areas and, as it is a treatment using the patient’s own blood, it is a completely natural procedure that stimulates the repair mechanisms.
What Is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?
PRP treatment is carried out using a small amount of blood, about 10 cc, taken from your arm by the doctor. The blood taken from the person receiving PRP is separated into its platelets using a centrifuge. The blood product obtained from this process, called PRP, is applied under the skin in ways similar to fillers or mesotherapy.
As well as being given into the skin by the mesotherapy or filler method, PRP can also be applied with the help of a mask. After the first session, vitality, radiance and fullness are seen in the skin. In hair loss and dull, lifeless hair, it has been observed that shedding decreases, the hair becomes revitalised and new hair grows, because blood supply to hair roots that have weakened but not lost their vitality increases and they are better nourished.
Does PRP have any side effects or risk of infection?
If the correct kit is used (Regenkit), there are no risks or side effects, because Regenkit is a kit containing a single-use injection and tube for each session. It is extremely safe. There can be no side effects, because what is taken from you is given back only to you, in greater strength.
What are the visible results of PRP?
The skin looks brighter and more vibrant. Sun spots and age spots, especially those on the face, soften, and bags under the eyes and dark discolouration improve. Fine lines soften. People may ask, “You look so young. Have you had cosmetic surgery?” Yet PRP, an extremely natural method, simply gives back to you, more strongly, what you already have. This is your skin’s own defence mechanism. Another nice aspect is that the effects of PRP are also seen around the treated area. When you have it done on your face, your hair is revitalised too.
